Forklift Brake - A brake in which the friction is supplied by a set of brake shoes or brake pads that press against a rotating drum shaped unit called a brake drum. There are a few specific differences among brake drum kinds. A "brake drum" is usually the definition provided if shoes press on the interior outside of the drum. A "clasp brake" is the term used to describe if shoes press next to the outside of the drum. One more type of brake, referred to as a "band brake" utilizes a flexible belt or band to wrap round the exterior of the drum. If the parking or emergency brake actuator lever goes over a certain amount of travel, the ratchet advances an adjuster screw and the brake shoes move toward the drum.

There is a manual adjustment knob placed at the base of the drum. It is usually adjusted via a hole on the other side of the wheel and this involves getting beneath the vehicle utilizing a flathead screwdriver.
